Welcome to KentScoobies.com the club for Subaru enthusiasts in the Kent area.
History:
Originally founded by Andy ‘HOL’ Hollands in the summer of 2002, the ‘Maidstone & District Meet’ (as it was then called) started out as a small meet, but soon became a regular meeting of Subaru owners and enthusiasts at the ‘Formula One Bar’ in Rochester. This was an ideal venue for the meets, with plenty of parking, and a good view of the cars from a bar that was loaded with F1 and Sports Car memorabilia. Unfortunately the F1 bar closed down not long after the meets started (although not due to us meeting there, we hope).
In 2003, Andy’s work commitments increased and he started spending more time away from home, the organising of the meets was gratefully passed onto Phil (Hades) & Pele.
Phil and Pele quickly came up with the idea of alternating the venue between The Wharf - Greenhithe & Nottcutts - Bearstead). This made the meets more accessible to those not just local to Maidstone.
Phil then relocated all the way to gloomy Gloucestershire, and in April 2003, Pele took over the sole running of the meets, decided to make things a bit more organised and start a formal club, and so KentScoobies was born
The club really took off at this point, with the design of a club logo and stickers, sponsorship from a local Subaru dealer and registration of Kentscoobies.com as a domain name linking to our own bulletin board – hosted on The SIDC website. This made it possible for members to get together online, post up their views and suggestions, and to organise local events.
KentScoobies.com now:
Along with the monthly meets on 3rd Friday, members are encouraged to organise other events in Kent and the surrounding area, such as rolling road days, Japanese car meets, Sunday Lunches, BBQ’s etc.
We also have our own SIDC Regional Organiser and attend many of the National Shows with the other clubs, often on the SIDC stand - it’s always fun to be in a convoy of Scoobies, (especially through a tunnel).
Meets are always friendly, we try to make everyone feel welcome and answer as many questions that new and existing members have where possible. Subaru owners and their families are welcome, a lot of the club members have children and it’s nice to see them come along too.
This new website and Bulletin Board has been set up by existing Kent Scoobies members, who have a passion for their Subaru, be it a daily driver, show car, trackday special, or a combination of all three.
Special Note: We would like to remember two very special members of this club who sadly are not here to see the clubs new website go live....Andy ‘Mole’s’ Dad Sandlan and Robert ‘Gatso Busters’ Kitchin - may they both rest in peace in motoring heaven...
